This was my first time eating lunch at Uchiwa Ramen along with mom & sis in Emeryville SC on Presidents' Day. The dining room was small so we have to wait like 15-20 minutes as my mom was on a wheelchair. We waited while exploring the area. We finally got our table by the window. The restaurant offered comfort food from Chinese and Japanese cuisines. We cruised the menu with various styles of ramen. As they said the noodles were fresh. We asked our server Kevin what was the popular ramen. He was patiently answering our questions about broth not being salty because our mother was avoiding high sodium as possible. He recommended the Shio which had the flavorful light broth. So we got it for our mom. I ordered the Tonkotsu with rich thick broth. My sister got the Chicken Katsu with choice of Tonkatsu sauce. The ramen noodles came and looked the same. I asked the female server what was the difference as they looked the same. She explained it was the broth. One was light and mine was thick broth. I had spinach and mom had the bean sprouts. So I tasted the broth of my mom's and mine to taste the difference. They were both delicious. They rendered friendly service. When we were leaving, Kevin opened the door for my mom who was pushed on a wheelchair. I recommend this restaurant. I don't mind returning once we are in the area.

Delicious pork belly! Good service and portions. Probably the most flavorful pork belly I've had in Tonkatsu Ramen!

This ramen was pretty good for a spot in a shopping center. I liked how thick and flavorful the pork was but it was not as tender as I would of liked it. I liked the broth of the ramen. We also got the katsu curry. It was good but they give you very little amnt of curry. The service was great. They were attentive and fast. The space is not too small or too big. We felt pretty comfortable in the space.

Not sure why the ratings aren't as high but I'm here to share -- don't shy away from Uchiwa Ramen! Located in a big shopping mall, one could find this ramen joint directly across from the AMC theater on the third floor. We arrived late afternoon on a weekday so the place was empty but that was okay -- we don't need a crowd to have a good time. We tried the following from the menu: * Tonkotsu ($18.95) described on the menu as fresh ramen noodles, chashu (braised pork belly), soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, spinach, mushroom, green onions, and bamboo shoots in a rich pork broth. * Miso ($18.95) described on the menu as fresh ramen noodles, chashu (braised pork belly), soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, asparagus, corn, green onions, pickled vegetables, bamboo shoots in a rich miso broth. * Gyoza ($10.95) described on the menu as fried pork or vegetable dumplings served with a ponzu sauce. * Cucumber Salad ($4.95) described on the menu as thinly sliced Japanese cucumbers marinated in a vinaigrette dressing. Everything exceeded our expectations! The gyoza and cucumber salad were great appetizers, and prepared thoughtfully. The broth for each bowl was distinctive to its own features and owned its name. The miso soup hit the mark for me, and the ramen noodles were fresh as claimed on the menu. My only small critique is that I would have preferred my broth a bit more pipping hot as it was more on the luke warm side for me, but it will still delicious. I didn't capture a photo but we finished both bowls of ramen in its entirety. :) Would definitely return when in the area again. Support local small businesses y'all!
